High resolution optical system in a highly magnetic environment.

Application:

Provide an optical system to view cells 4 microns in size suspended in a highly magnetized bore at a working distance of 16 inches.

Challenge:

The optical system needed to be 16" from the target and not be affected by the strong magnets within the MRI machine.

Navitar Solution:

Navitar recommended that a Zoom 6000 lens be placed within the bore. Our engineering staff modified the mechanical design allowing the Zoom 6000 system to fit inside the machine cavity. By inserting the lens into the bore of the MRI machine the working distance was reduced to 36 mm, thus achieving the high resolution needed for cell inspection. To further improve the solution, Navitar eliminated all ferrous metal inside the lens system.
